Mobile-based Health Apps

There are literally thousands of health related mobile apps available for download on the main Play Stores, as well as from a few curated libraries that were set up to provide some measure of quality control.

Mobile-based apps all use the built-in sensor devices available, usually the camera or the microphone, and sometimes the accelorometer. However, the vast differences in specs between each mobile model make these systems somewhat unreliable.

Most of these apps would be more effective with a purpose-designed external sensor performing the actual measurements, with the mobile device handling the analysis and cloud storage. (As with an external step or movement tracker worn on a wrist.)

Golf lessons from historical figures

While side-lined by Covid-19 and not being able to actually play golf, I remembered an idea I had some time ago – What lessons could historical characters teach about the game of golf? Even if you had to just imagine that they played….mmm. So here’s quite an obvious one:-

1. Getting out of bunkers alive – by Adolf Hitler

Hitler’s struggle with bunkers was the inspiration for the title of his book

During his lifetime there was no relief in the rules. It took the R&A until 2019 to add rule 19.3b, which would have allowed Adolf to drop outside the bunker for a 2 stroke penalty….I’m sure he would have grasped that one with both hands!
